This invention relates to a process for making phenolic fatty acid compounds having a reduced phenolic ester content. The invention also relates to method for chemically bonding a phenolic resin with a non-phenolic polymer (e.g., a synthetic fabric). The method comprises contacting a phenolic fatty acid compound with a non-phenolic polymer to introduce a hydroxy phenyl functional group into the non-phenolic polymer; and reacting the hydroxy phenyl functional group contained in the non-phenolic polymer with a phenolic resin or a phenolic crosslinker composition capable of forming a phenolic resin, to chemically bond the phenolic resin with the non-phenolic polymer. The invention is particularly useful for making a synthetic fabric-reinforced article, such as synthetic fabric-reinforced rubber article, circuit board substrate, or fiberglass.

A polyester resin aqueous dispersion which provides a coating film having excellent processability, water resistance, corrosion resistance, chemical resistance, weather resistance and adhesion to various substrates, and which also has markedly excellent storage stability even at a high solids concentration. The polyester resin aqueous dispersion substantially comprises a specific polyester resin, a basic compound, an amphipathic organic solvent capable of plasticizing the polyester resin, and a compound having a protective colloid action. Furthermore, fine particles of the polyester resin are homogeneously dispersed in an aqueous medium and in a specific dispersed state.

The present invention is to provide an aqueous dispersion of a polyester resin with an excellent molecular weight stability, its production method, and an aqueous coating composition. An aqueous dispersion of a polyester resin having an acid value of 8 to 40 mg KOH/g and a weight average molecular weight of 9,000 or more contains an organic solvent in an amount of less than 0.5% by mass. A method for producing the aqueous dispersion of a polyester resin comprising a step of at first obtaining an aqueous dispersion of polyester resin containing not less than 0.5% by mass of an organic solvent by adding the polyester resin and a basic compound to an aqueous medium to make the resulting mixture aqueous and a step of removing the organic solvent from the aqueous dispersion. An aqueous coating composition can be obtained by adding a curing agent to the foregoing aqueous dispersion of a polyester resin.

A polyester resin aqueous dispersion, comprising:
a polyester resin (A) having a number-average molecular weight of 5,000 or more and a glass transition temperature of 50°C or higher and
a polyester resin (B) having a number-average molecular weight of 9,000 or more and a glass transition temperature of 30°C or lower at a rate (A)/(B) in the range of 80/20 to 20/80 (by mass),
giving a resin film superior in adhesive properties, without cracks, and superior in blocking resistance even when formed at low temperature, and superior in bonding properties even when heat-sealed at low temperature, a film obtained by removing an aqueous medium therefrom, and a packaging bag with the film heat-sealed.
An object of the invention is to provide aqueous coating liquids that contain ultrafine inorganic compound particles with good dispersibility, and to provide gas barrier laminates of excellent transparency and gas barrier properties that have a layer formed from the coating liquid. A coating liquid of the invention includes ultrafine inorganic compound particles, a polyester resin, a sodium polycarboxylate and water. A gas barrier laminate of the invention includes a substrate and a gas barrier layer formed on the substrate, wherein the gas barrier layer has a layer (A) formed from the coating liquid and a layer (B) containing a polycarboxylic acid polymer.
