Die vorliegende Erfindung behandelt die Herstellung von kernsubstituierten Benzaldehyden aus den entsprechenden Benzylhalogeniden. Letztere werden durch organische Oxidationsmittel oxidiert. Erfindungsgemäß erfolgt die Oxidation mit Hilfe von Aminoxiden tertiärer Amino und in Anwesenheit von Wasser. Die Reaktionstemperaturen liegen zwischen 20 und 140° C. Das Wasser kann in Mengen von 0,1 bis 50 Vol.%, bezogen auf das Gesamtvolumen des Reaktionsgemisches, anwesend sein. Dies bedingt eine erhebliche Vereinfachung gegenüber dem Einsatz bekannter N-Aminoxide als Oxidationsmittel, die nur im wasserfreien Medium eingesetzt werden können. Die den Aminoxiden zugrundeliegenden Amine können aliphatischer, aromatischer oder heterocyclischer Natur sein.

The invention relates to a process for preparing bromine-containing polymer, comprising a Friedel-Crafts alkylation reaction of tetrabromoxylylene dihalide, or tetrabromoxylylene dihalide in combination with pentabromobenzyl halide, with a reactant having one or more six-membered aromatic rings, wherein the reaction takes place in a solvent in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst, and isolating from the reaction mixture the bromine-containing polymer. The so-formed polymers and their use as flame retardants form additional aspects of the invention.

Six derivatives of 2-aminoindane-2-phosphonic acid and 1-aminobenzylphosphonic acid were synthesized. The compounds were tested both as inhibitors of buckwheat phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (in vitro) and as inhibitors of anthocyanin biosynthesis (in vivo). (+/-)-2-Amino-4-bromoindane-2-phosphonic acid was found to be the strongest inhibitor from investigated compounds. The results obtained are a basis for design of phenylalanine ammonia-lyase inhibitors useful in the enzyme structure studies in photo labelling experiments. (c) 2006 Elsevier Ltd.
