Provided is a method for producing an azo compound, the method including: subjecting an organic amine compound represented by Formula (2) or a salt thereof to a diazotization reaction in the presence of nitrosylsulfuric acid, and thereby producing a diazonium salt; and reacting a compound represented by Formula (1) with the diazonium salt, and thereby producing an azo compound represented by Formula (3). R11 represents a halogen atom, an alkyl group, or an alkoxy group; R1 and R2 each represent a hydrogen atom; R3 and R4 each independently represent a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkenyl group, a group represented by Formula (4), or the like; and R5 and R8 each independently represent a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkenyl group, or the like. n represents an integer from 0 to 4. X represents an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom. The symbol * represents a position of bonding.
