The invention provides compounds and compositions useful for the modulation of certain enzymes. The compounds and compositions can induce of cell death, particularly cancer cell death. The invention also provides methods for the synthesis and use of the compounds and compositions, including the use of compounds and compositions in therapy for the treatment of cancer and selective induction of apoptosis in cells.

White-light emissive systems form upon aggregation in 1 : 99 and 0.1 : 99.9 vol% CH2Cl2–cyclohexane mixtures, ascribed to aggregation-induceddualemission (AIDE) in combination with partial energy transfer between both chromophore units as supported by spectroscopic studies.

An organic compound useful for detecting the total quantity of isocyanate in an environmental sample is provided. The compound is 9-anthrcenylmethyl-1-piperazinecarboxylate (PAC), an isocyanate derivatizing agent. A process for producing PAC and methods for detecting a particular isocyanate monomer or the total isocyanate in environmental samples using PAC & related isocyanate derivatizing agents are also provided.

The present invention provides for a method for detecting the presence of isocyanate in a sample by (a) contacting an isocyanate derivatizing agent with a sample under conditions suitable to the formation of a reaction product capable of detection and (b) detecting the presence or absence of the reaction product as an indication of the presence or absence of isocyanate in said sample. The present invention also provides a method of quantifying the total isocyanate presence by quantifying the reaction product An organic compound useful for detecting the total quantity of isocyanate in an environmental sample is disclosed. The compound is 1,8-diaminonaphthalene (DAN), a bifunctional nucleophilic derivatizing agent. Methods for detecting a particular isocyanate monomer or the total isocyanate in environmental samples using DAN and related isocyanate derivatizing agents are provided.
