    Wavelength-Dependent Selectivity in [4 + 4]-Cycloaddition Reactions
    摘要:
    Selective excitation of a variety of anthracene derivatives in the presence of anthracene led to the formation of only the cross-cyclomer products, while irradiating these mixtures at wavelengths where anthracene also absorbs led to both dianthracene and the mixed cyclomers being formed. This method was shown to be general, so long as the chromophore was inert toward forming its homodimer and could be irradiated at wavelengths at which anthracene does not absorb.

    A composition containing a novel vinyl-group-containing compound. This composition contains a vinyl-group-containing compound represented by general formula (1).     A novel vinyl-group-containing fluorene compound and a method for producing the same, a polymerizable monomer and cross-linking agent including this compound, a leaving-group-containing fluorene compound, a monovinyl-group-containing fluorene compound, and methods for producing the same. This vinyl-group-containing fluorene compound is represented by formula (1). In the formula, W 1 and W 2 represent a group represented by formula (2), a group represented by formula (4), a hydroxyl group, or a (meth)acryloyloxy group, R 3a and R 3b represent a cyano group, a halogen atom, or a monovalent hydrocarbon, and n1 and n2 are integers of 0-4.   • From enolates to anthraquinones

    A series of highly reactive cyclopentadienones were prepared in situ from the corresponding hydroxycyclopent-2-enones and trapped with a variety of quinones. Reaction of 1,4-naphthoquinone with 4-hydroxy-3,4-diphenyl-cyclopent-2-enone afforded 2,3-diphenylanthraquinone, whereas reaction of benzoquinone with this same cyclopentadienone precursor yielded a mixture of 6,7-diphenyl-1,4-naphthoquinone and 2,3,6,7-tetraphenyl anthraquinone. A number of other 2,3-diarylanthraquinones were likewise prepared in moderate yields from the reaction of 1,4-naphthoquinone with the appropriate 4-hydroxy-3,4-diarylcyclopent-2-enones. This method appears to be generally applicable to the synthesis of anthraquinone derivatives substituted at the 2- and 3-positions from inexpensive starting materials.Key words: anthraquinone, Diels–Alder, cyclopentadienone, in situ.

    This preliminary report of the action of phenylmagnesium bromide on anthraquinone contains the description of a procedure for avoiding the recovery of large amounts of unchanged quinone, with consequent increasing of the yield. Butyl ether is preferable to toluene for "forced" Grignard reactions.
