The redox activity of potent chemosensors based on anthryl-containing diamines, thioureas, and ureas in the absence and in the presence of complexing metal cations in solution was studied by cyclic and differential pulse voltammetry. The free energy of intramolecular electron transfer was calculated. The experimental conclusions were confirmed by ab initio RHF/6-31G** calculations. A correlation was found between the electrochemical and photophysical data for the compounds studied.
Imidazolidinium, tetrahydropyrimidinium and benzimidazoliumsalts were prepared. Upon reaction with tBuOK, they generate carbene ligands, which were associated in situ to [RuCp*(MeCN)3]PF6 to produce ruthenium catalysts that are active for the substitution of allylic substrates by dimethyl malonate as a carbonucleophile and phenol. The influences of the N-heterocyclic structures, as well as that of

sialyl Lewis X (sLex), are invaluable research tools and for the diagnosis and early detection of many forms of cancer. In this paper, we report the design and synthesis of a series of bisboronic acids 6(a–f) as fluorescent sensors towards mono-/oligosaccharides. Among them, compounds 6d and 6e showed strong binding affinities with glucose and fructose, while compound 6c, in which two anthracene-based

2-Substituted imidazolidines and hexahydropyrimidines have been obtained by the interaction of ethane-1,2-diamine and propane-1,3-diamine derivatives with 3-phenylbicyclo[2.2.1]hepta-2,5-diene-2-carbaldehyde. Investigation of their luminescent, photochromic, and sensor properties has shown the possibility of using these compounds as photoswitch pH sensors.

Anthracene-based open and macrocyclic receptors 1 and 2 have been designed and synthesized for the recognition of urea in less polar CHCl3 and more polar CH3CN solvents. Receptor 1 binds urea strongly in CHCl3 and exhibits a significant increase in the emission of the anthracene. Macrocyclic analogue 2 shows higher binding and good sensibility towards urea due to the macrocyclic effect. In CH3CN, the binding constant values are lower in magnitude, but the trend is similar to that seen in CHCl3. Both the receptors 1 and 2 are examples of PET sensors for the recognition of urea.
