    The present invention provides methods of making low energy polymerizable monomers and resins for use in making dielectric materials. The methods comprise deprotecting or deacylating an organic alkali cleavable protecting group containing addition polymerizable, amine containing aromatic monomer or oligoaromatic phenol resin containing an organic alkali cleavable protecting group, such as a C 2 to C 9 alkanoyl group, preferably, an acyl group, by hydrolyzing to remove the protecting group in organic alkali in a polar solvent containing an excess of alkali C 1 to C 7 alkoxide and form a hydroxyl functional monomer or resin, followed by; reacting via nucleophilic substitution the resulting hydroxyl functional monomer or resin with an alpha-halide (α-halide) or strong acid conjugate leaving group containing arylcyclobutene compound in a polar solvent, to yield a product an arylcyclobutene-containing addition polymerizable or amine containing aromatic monomer or oligoaromatic phenol resin having an ether linkage from the cyclobutene ring to an aromatic group of the addition polymerizable aromatic monomer, aromatic amine or oligoaromatic phenol.

    A process for producing aromatic polyether ketones and polythioether ketones, which comprises reacting aromatic ethers or thioethers represented by the general formula: where each of R1 to R12 is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a hydrocarbon group or an alkoxy group, n is an integer of 0 to 5, and X is an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom, with phosgene in aprotic solvent having a dielectric constant of lower than 20 and a dipole moment of lower than 3.0 in the presence of anhydrous halides of metals of Group III in the periodic table as a catalyst.

    A polymer ion exchange membrane for acidic electrolyte flow battery. The membrane is nitrogen heterocycles aromatic polymer, especially polybenzimidazole type polymer. A nitrogen heterocycles in the membrane interact with acid in the electrolyte to form donor-receptor proton transport network, so as to keep the proton transport performance of the membrane. The preparation condition for the membrane is mild, and the process is simplicity. The preparation method is suitable for mass production. The membrane is used in acidic electrolyte flow battery, especially in vanadium flow energy storage battery. The membrane has excellent mechanical stability and thermostability. In vanadium redox flow battery, the membrane has excellent proton conduct performance and excellent resistance to the permeation of vanadium ions.
