M2RETa6Br18 (M = K, Rb, Cs; RE = Eu, Yb), MRETa6Br18 (M = K, Rb, Cs; RE = La to Lu and Y), and RE Ta6Br18 (RE = Nd to Tm) have been isolated. All these compounds are isotypic with KLuNb6Cl18, space group R3̄ , except the series CsRETa6Br18, which is isotypic with CsLuNb6Cl18, space group P3̄ 1c. They exhibit 16 or 15 e- /Ta6 depending on the monovalent cation stoichiometry and the rare earth oxidation state
