Abstract Reaction of trichloroacetaldehyde and acrylonitrile in the presence of a catalytic amount of copper (I) chloride in ionic liquid afforded 2,3,5‐trichloropyridine, fluorination of which with KF and CsF in ionic liquid afforded 3,5‐dichloro‐2‐fluoropyridine and 5‐chloro‐2,3‐dichloropyridine.
