An array of additions and cycloadditions of a highly reactive perfluoroalkene is described, and many of these transformations are examined computationally. Among the products are [2.2.2]propellanes.
A compound, 2,4,5-trifluoro-2-(trifluoromethyl)-1,3-dioxolane, useful as an anesthetic, solvent, as co-monomer in a polyacetals, or as a dispersant of fluorinated materials. The compound is synthesized as a mixture ofcis- andtrans- isomers, from whichtrans-2,4,5-trifluoro-2-(trifluoromethyl)-1,3-dioxolane can be isolated from thecis- isomers using distillation. The product mixture and thetrans-isomer have independently been shown to cause loss-of-righting-reflex (LORR) in mice, indicating the dioxolanes' anesthetic activity.
