It is intended to provide an optical film capable of reducing the occurrence of horseback (U-shaped deformation) failure, transfer of winding core and wrinkles at the start of winding, a process for producing the same, a polarizing plate with high contrast and a liquid crystal display device. The optical film of the invention is characterized by comprising a cellulose ester and an ultraviolet absorber represented by the following general formula (1). General formula (1). In the formula, R1 represents: R2 represents a methyl group, a t-butyl group, t-amyl group, or t-octyl group, R3 represents a substituent, R4 and R5 represent a hydrogen atom or a substituent, m represents an integer of 0 to 3, and n represents an integer of 0 to 4.
