  The present invention has been made within the field of plastic/polymer recycling and relates to a process for transforming e.g. end-of-use/waste PET polymer (a very common polyester) into a commonly used and pure monomer compound (e.g. BHET), which can re-enter the production of "pristine" PET, i.e. PET with similar or the same quality as non-recycled PET. Furthermore, the present invention can be used to recover both BHET and textile e.g. cotton from PET/textile blended fabric.
