We have prepared immobilized olefins as models for the crossmetathesis using different olefin partners in the presence of second generation Grubbs and Hoveyda−Grubbs precatalysts. We have demonstrated that solid-phase crossmetathesis is strongly dependent on the degree of homodimerization of the non-immobilized olefin and the reactivity of such a homodimer. A visible light photosensitizing metal-organic cage was employed as an artificial enzyme-mimicking nanoreactor for the selective arylation of terminal olefins, giving rise to controllable syntheses of geometrically defined E- or Z-alkenes with benzonitrile as the turn on/off key.
