S,S-Dimethyl dithiocarbonate: A novel carbonyl dication synthon in the synthesis of ketones

We report herein the use of DMDTC as an effective carbonyl dication equivalent in ketone synthesis. According to our strategy, we also successfully devised a synthetic pathway for S-methyl (trimethylsilyl)thioacetate which may be a potentially useful synthetic reagent in organic synthesis.

the present study, an efficient Cu-catalyzed transthiolation of alkyliodides is developed. Notably, in the presence of CO, thioesters could also be obtained with copper and cobalt as the co-catalyst. This transformation displayed good functional group tolerance and afforded thioesters or sulfides from the corresponding alkyliodides.

The photochemical behaviour of saturated aliphatic (2, 4, and 5) and bicyclic (18 and 19) β-keto sulfoxides has been studied. Photostereomutation of the sulfoxide group was observed on irradiation of 4a, 4b, 18, and 19. Most likely an internal energy transfer from the excited carbonyl to the sulfoxide group is operating on direct irradiation of such compounds.

The selective acylation of indoles often requires sensitive and reactive acyl chloride derivatives. Here, we report a mild, efficient, functional group tolerant, and highly chemoselectiveN-acylation of indoles using thioesters as a stable acyl source. A series of indoleamides have been obtained with moderate to good yields. In addition, heterocycles, such as carbazole, can also be used as nucleophiles
