Schiff base condensation of N(CH2CH2NH2)3 and Ph2P(o-C6H4)C(O)H produces the potentially heptadentate ligand N(CH2CH2NCH(o-C6H4)PPh2)3, which reacts with tungstencarbonyls to form two tripodal complexes and a tricyclic cage complex.

(Ph2P(o-C6H4)CHNCH2CH2)3N with 3 equiv. of Os3(CO)10(NCMe)2 at ambient temperature affords the triple cluster [Os3(CO)10Ph2P(o-C6H4)CHNCH2CH2]3N (1) through coordination of the phosphine and imine groups.
