    The copper-catalyzed asymmetric allylic alkylation has shown through many examples that it is a powerful means to generate stereogenic centers with mono β- and γ-substituted olefinic substrates. However, little has been reported about more substituted olefinic patterns, such as β-disubstituted allylic electrophiles.     1H-Cyclopropa[b]naphthalene (10a) and 3-methyl or dimethyl derivatives have been synthesized by interception of appropriately substituted o-quinodimethanes 3 with 1-bromo-2-chlorocyclopropene 5, and subsequent dehydrohalogenation of the adducts. The o-quinodimethane derivatives 3 in turn were obtained from the diynes 7via base-induced isomerization to bisallenes 8 and thermal electrocyclic ring closure

  • Fast Assembly and High-Throughput Screening of Structure and Antioxidant Relationship of Carotenoids

    C-20 heptaenyl diphosphonate 4 was prepared for one-pot synthesis of carotenoids 1. Olefination with various aromatic aldehydes allowed fast assembly of the corresponding carotenoids. The SAR of carotenoids was investigated by high-throughput screening of ABTS and DPPH assays and their hierarchical clustering analysis. Antioxidant activity of carotenoids increased with the number of electron-donating substituents. Carotene la with multiple electron-donating substituents was most proficient, which showed better radical scavenging activities than beta-carotene and lycopene.
