    Non-fullerene electron acceptors for highly efficient organic photovoltaic devices are described. The non-fullerene electron acceptors have an extended, rigid, π-conjugated electron-deficient framework that can facilitate exciton and charge derealization. The non-fullerene electron acceptors can physically mix with a donor polymer and facilitate improved electron transport. The non-fullerene electron acceptors can be incorporated into organic electronic devices, such as photovoltaic cells.

    The present disclosure provides assays for lysosomal enzymes, specifically palmitoyl protein thioesterase 1 (PPT1) and tripeptidyl peptidase 1 (TPP1), using, for example, tandem mass spectrometry. The assays involve the detection of enzymatic products obtained through the action of the lysosomal enzymes on new enzyme substrates, and can be used for quantitative enzyme activity measurements. The assays for the enzymes utilize a minimum steps for sample work up and can be run in a simplex format or in a duplex format for the detection of neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses, or in a multiplex format with other mass spectrometry-based assays for screening of neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses and other lysosomal storage disorders.

    A family of bisacenaphthopyrazinoquinoxaline derivatives of formula (I) and (II) is disclosed. These compounds are capable of forming liquid crystal systems that can produce optically isotropic or anisotropic films with desirable optical properties: (I), (II) wherein Ri, R2, Rs, R4, R5 and R& are each independently selected from —H, —SO 3 M, —OH, —NH 2 , —Cl, —Br, —I, —NO 2 , —F, —CF 3 , —CN, —COOH, —CONH 2 , alkyl, aryl, alkynyl, alkenyl, alkoxyl, alkylamino, phenoxyl, and phenylamino groups; M is one or more counter ions; j is the number of counter ions associated with the compound; and n is an integer in the range of 1 to S.
