Phosphirane oxide derivatives were first successfully synthesized in good yield under mild conditions wherein carbon–carbon bond formation was promoted by two phenylsulfinyl groups on the α and α′ carbons of the phosphorus atom. A structure determination of the formed phosphirane oxide derivatives as well as the stereochemistry of the Pummererreaction product revealed a trans geometry for the phosphirane
