We report the preparation of multi-component molecules based on ethynyl-substituted 2,2'-bipyridine and 2,2':6',6 ''-terpyridine derivatives and para substituted phenyl, naphtalene and anthracene moieties. The triple bonds play the role of a wire while the polyaromatic systems behave as an energy relay subunit. (C) 1997 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd.
