This invention relates to substantially transparent solid solution polymer blends having improved hydrolytic stability, and flexibility which comprise (a) a linear aromatic polyester containing as monomer units the residues of a dicarboxylic acid and a bisphenol, and (b) a linear aromatic polysulfonate containing as monomer units the residues of a bisphenol and a disulfonic acid. The polyblends are useful in preparation of films and molded articles.
A process for producing a thermoset resin, which comprises reacting (A) an organic compound containing at least two groups selected from the class consisting of alcoholic hydroxyl groups, aromatic amino groups and aromatic aminomethyl groups, and (B) a poly(cyclic iminoether) in the presence of (C) a compound acting as an acid catalyst, at an elevated temperature.

This invention relates to polycarbonates formed at least in part from dihydroxy aryl ketones and optionally benzylic hydrogen-containing aromatic diols. These polycarbonates may be formed, molded, or otherwise incorporated into articles which upon exposure to electromagnetic radiation causes the formation of crosslinking bonds therby imparting improved solvent resistance to the completed structure.
A process for producing polycarbonate is disclosed, comprising reacting a halogenated bisphenol-containing organic dihydroxy compound and a carbonate-forming derivative in a liquid medium in the presence of pentahalogenophenol as a molecular weight modifier. This polycarbonate is superior in flame retardance, impact resistance and fluidity, and further in transparency.
