  The invention describes novel 1-arylimidazoles of formula (I) wherein typically preferred substituents are: X is S(O)nR1, in which R1 is an alkyl group, preferably a methyl group, which is fully substituted by halogen atoms, and n is 0, 1 and 2; Y is selected from a hydrogen or halogen atom or a group selected from methylsulfenyl, methylsulfinyl or methylsulfonyl; Z is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or an alkyl group, preferably methyl; and R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 are selected from a hydrogen or a halogen atom or a group selected from an unsubstituted or halo-substituted alkyl, alkoxy, alkylsulfenyl, alkylsulfinyl or alkylsulfonyl. The invention further describes intermediates and processes to make the compounds, compositions of the compounds and to methods of use of the compounds for the control of arthropods (especially mites, aphids or insects), nematodes, helminths, or protozoa.

  Substituted 1-arylpyrrole compounds of formula (II) below, are useful as pesticides, in particular for the control of insects, arachnids, and nematodes. Processes to make the compounds and intermediates used for their preparation are described. Additionally, compositions containing the compounds and methods of use therefore are provided.
