Secondary phosphines R2PH [R = Ph(CH2)(2), 4-t-BuC6H4(CH2)(2), 4-MeOC6H4(CH2)(2), 2-Naphth(CH2)(2)] react with two equivalents of elemental selenium under mild conditions (85 C, 3 h, toluene) to afford bis(diorganoselenophosphoryl)selenides (R2PSe)(2)Se in high yields (75-92%). Redox reaction between alkali metal diselenophosphinates R2P(Se)SeM (M = Na, K) and elemental iodine in a 2:1 molar ratio (1,4-dioxane, room temperature, 2 min) gives bis(diorganylselenophosphoryl)selenides [R2P(Se)](2)Se and bis(diorganylselenophosphoryl)triselenides [R2P(Se)](2)Se-3 in 87-90% total yields.
