We developed an efficient and direct method for synthesis of benzothiophene oxides from 1-bromo-2-[2-(trimethylsilyl)ethynyl]benzenes and thionylchloride as an easily accessible source of the sulfinyl group. Compounds that are organic radicals that can have a dual function. The compounds can be fluorescent emitters that emit in the near-IR. The compounds can also facilitate reverse intersystem crossing (RISC) to convert triplet excitons in an OLED to singlet excited states to maximize utilization of generated excitons in the OLED and approach 100% internal quantum efficiency.
Novel heterocyclic materials are disclosed. The materials contain a fused tetracyclic structure that can improve the properties of OLED devices when the novel heterocyclic materials are incorporated into such devices.
