PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for inexpensively producing a color coupler for silver halide photography.
SOLUTION: It has been unexpectedly found out that a solvent of an alcohol can also be used in producing a color coupler for silver halide photography from an o-aminophenol obtained by catalytically reducing an o-nitrophenol. It is therefore possible to carry out the catalytic reduction and the course from amidation condensation to purification in a single solvent and to thereby produce an inexpensive cyan coupler without allowing by-products causing fogging, sensitivity loss, etc., and being undesirable for photographic performances to remain in the coupler.
