Pummerer rearrangements of 3-carbomethoxythian-4-one -oxide () have been investigated and chlorotrimethylsilane found to be the reagent of choice for preparing the corresponding α,β-unsaturated sulphides ( and ). Related chlorotrimethylsilane-induced Pummerer rearrangements are also reported.
