    r. spectra of seven copper(II) dithiocarbamates have been recorded in chloroform–ethanol mixtures at room temperature and at 113 K. It has been found that the addition of a range of salts to these dithiocarbamates destroys the complex forming a mixed-ligand complex, [Cu(S2CNR2)X], with a new e.s.r. spectrum.     In a process for producing (meth)acrylic acid comprising contacting a reaction gas containing (meth)acrylic acid obtained by gas-phase catalytic oxidation with an absorbent solvent to prepare a (meth)acrylic acid solution; and introducing the (meth)acrylic acid solution into a distillation column to purify (meth)acrylic acid, after a dissolved oxygen concentration in the (meth)acrylic acid solution to be introduced into the distillation column is adjusted to not less than 12 ppm by weight, the (meth)acrylic acid solution is fed to the distillation column. In addition, upon an azeotropic dehydration distillation step, a phenol-based polymerization inhibitor is fed to an azeotropic dehydration distillation column from a position not lower than a raw material feed stage thereof, and a copper-based polymerization inhibitor is fed to the azeotropic dehydration distillation column from a position lower than the raw material feed stage. According these methods, the production of polymers of (meth)acrylic acid and polymerization clogging in the distillation column are prevented, so that it is possible to stably purify (meth)acrylic acid by distillation for a long period of time.

    A method for the decomposition of a Michael type adduct of an acrylic acid and/or an acrylic ester represented by the following formula [I] or [II] is disclosed, wherein decomposing the Michael type adduct in the presence of at least one copper salt and at least one metal salt selected from the group consisting of an alkali metal salt and an alkaline earth metal salt into an acrylic acid and/or an acrylic ester and/or an alcohol. CH 2 ═CHCOO(—X—COO) n —R 1 [I] R 2 —O(—X—COO) m —R 3 [II] (wherein n and m denote an integer in the range of 1-5, R 1 , R 2 , and R 3 independently denote a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group, and —X— denotes —CH 2 CH 2 — or —CH(CH 3 )—, and —X— may be identical or different when n is 2 or more).

    This invention provides a polymerization inhibitor and a polymerization-inhibiting method which make continuous operation of a device for producing vinyl compounds in a long period of time possible and make corrosion of the device quite small, and also, are superior in polymerization inhibition in case of transferring and storing the vinyl compound products and in other cases. The polymerization inhibitor of this invention is the one containing a manganese dithiocarbamate or a thiuram compound as an effective component. The polymerization-inhibiting method of this invention comprises an individual or joint use of said inhibitors, or a joint use of a copper salt, another manganese salt, or quinones in addition to said inhibitors. Also, the method may comprise a joint use of a copper dithiocarbamate and a manganese salt as polymerization inhibitors, or joint use of quinones in addition to these salts.
