    Long-Chain Aminoalcohol and Diamine Derivatives Induce Apoptosis through a Caspase-3 Dependent Pathway

    A number of long chain diamines and aminoalcohols and several of their alkyl, acyl and carbamoyl derivatives, have been synthesized and evaluated for their apoptotic activities using the Jurkat cell line. Apoptosis was measured by flow cytometry and the best results were found for the aminoalcohols displaying either a free alcohol or an amine with at least, one free hydrogen atom. The apoptotic pathway was mediated by a disruption of the mitochondria transmembrane potential and caspase-3 activation, inducing DNA fragmentation at the phase G(1)/S of the cell cycle.     Pentaerythritol-spiro-bis-phosphite compositions are provided having an improved hydrolytic stability, comprising (1) a pentaerythritol-spiro-bis-phosphite of the formula: wherein: R, and R2 are selected from the group consisting of alkyl and alkylaryl groups having at least fourteen carbon atoms up to about thirty-six carbon atoms; and (2) a long-chain aliphatic amine in an amount to improve the hydrolytic stability of the phosphite and having the formula: wherein: R3, R4, and R5 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen; aliphatic (including alkyl and alkenyl) groups having from one to about thirty-six carbon atoms; and hydroxyalkyl having from two to about six carbon atoms; one of R3, R4 and R5 is an aliphatic group having at least fourteen carbon atoms, and the remaining of R3, R4 and R5 are selected from hydrogen, alkyl having from one to four carbon atoms and hydroxyalkyl; and preferably at least one of R3, R4 and R5 is hydroxyalkyl.

    Disclosed is a process for preparing a diacetal compound of the formula (I) such as a dibenzylidene sorbitol, comprising the steps of(i) condensing an aldehyde compound and a polyhydric alcohol in the presence of an acid catalyst and when required a lower alcohol in a hydrophobic organic solvent to give a reaction mixture containing a diacetal compound, (ii) neutralizing the reaction mixture, (iii) washing the mixture with water, (iv) removing the solvent from the mixture thus washed, and (v) drying the residual mass; the process being characterized in that an amine such as, for example, di(C₁₀-C₂₆ alkyl or alkenyl)amine substituted on the nitrogen atom with a C₁-C₄ alkyl group or with a group of the formula (̵C₂H₄O)qH wherein q is an integer of 1 to 4, or a (C₁₄-C₂₂ alkyl or alkenyl)amine substituted on the nitrogen atom with one or two groups of the formula (̵C₂H₄O)qH wherein q is 1 to 4, is added during the period from the formation of the reaction mixture to the completion of the drying step.

    Provided are non-crosslinked foamed polyethylene resin particles that have a bulk density BD of 10 g/L or more and 100 g/L or less and are obtained by foaming polyethylene resin particles containing an antistatic agent in an amount of 0.1 part by weight or more and 3 parts by weight or less with respect to 100 parts by weight of a polyethylene resin and having a density of 0.920 g/cm3 or more and less than 0.940 g/cm3, and the non-crosslinked foamed polyethylene resin particles have a shrinkage ratio of 3% or more and 30% or less determined in accordance with Formula (1). The non-crosslinked foamed polyethylene resin particles can simply afford an antistatic molded non-crosslinked foamed polyethylene resin body that has a small shrinkage ratio with respect to mold dimension, is deformed in a small degree, and has good surface stretch. Shrinkage ratio = (BD-VBD) x 100/VBD (1) In the formula, BD is a bulk density of the non-crosslinked foamed polyethylene resin particles at 23°C and 0.1 MPa (under standard atmospheric pressure), and VBD is a bulk density of the non-crosslinked foamed polyethylene resin particles at 23°C under a reduced pressure of 0.002 MPa or less.

    Disclosed is a lubricating oil composition for low-friction sliding materials, which is used in a sliding mechanism where a DLC film containing hydrogen in an amount of from 5 atom% to 50 atom% is formed on at least one sliding surface. The lubricating oil composition contains, in the lubricant base oil therein and based on the total amount of the composition, (A) an organic zinc dithiophosphate in an amount of from 0.005% by mass to 0.12% by mass in terms of the phosphorus concentration therein, (B) an amine-based friction-reducing agent in an amount of from 0.05% by mass to 5.0% by mass, and (C) an alkaline earth metal salicylate-based detergent and/or an alkaline earth metal sulfonate-based detergent in an amount of from 0.05% by mass to 0.5% by mass in terms of the alkaline earth metal concentration therein, wherein the component (A) contains, based on the total amount of the composition, a zinc primary dialkyldithiophosphate in an amount of from 0.005% by mass to 0.05% by mass in terms of the phosphorus concentration therein.
