The molecular structure of a novel hypervalent tellurium(IV) compound, 2,2′-spirobi[4,7-diisopropyl-1,3,2-benzodithiatellurole] (1), has been determined by a single crystal X-ray diffraction study. The results represent the first crystal structural characterization of a hypervalent tellurium(IV), tellurane, with only four sulfur ligands. The tellurane has a distorted pseudo-trigonal-bipyramidal geometry
