  在研究二氯乙烯与环状环氧内酯和非环状环氧酯底物的反应过程中，发现只有酰基变体有效地参与了[2 + 2]-环加成反应。尽管尚缺乏对此原因的完整理解，但分子力学计算确实表明，无环化合物中甲酰基的平面外扭曲可能是部分原因。在筛选了各种手性助剂后，发现当使用（R）-2,2-二苯基环戊醇作为手性助剂时，在该环加成反应中可以获得有用的非对映选择性（2.6-10.8：1）。
