The metal-free protocol to synthesize 4-hydroxybenzophenones from para-quinone methides (p-QMs) employing elemental sulfur as redox reagent was developed under green conditions. Initial mechanistic studies suggested that 1,6-radical addition pathway was involved in the novel synthetic method.
