A simple and efficient alkylation of aromatic and heteroaromatic compounds via the direct SN1-type nucleophilic substitution of benzylic alcohols in the presence of catalytic amounts of the strong Brønsted acid o-benzenedisulfonimide under neat conditions is herein reported.
