η5-complexes of cyclopentadienylsilylethers (C5H4OSiR3) and hydroxycyclopentadiene (C5H4OH) with titanium and zirconium chlorides

The reactions of the lithiated trialkylsiloxy-cyclopentadienyl ethers (C5H4OSiR3 R-3 = Et-3, Me-2 Bu-t, Pr-i(3)) with TiCl4, ZrCl4, Cp*ZrCl3, or CpTiCl3 result in the formation of the respective metallocene dichlorides [(C5H4OSiR3)(2)TiCl2, (C5H4OSiR3)(2)ZrCl2, (C5H4OSiR3)(C5H5)TiCl2, (C5H4OSiR3)(C5Me5)ZrCl2)] in moderate to good yields. The reaction of Li(C5H4OSiEt3) with Cp*TiCl3 in toluene produced, in addition to the expected complex (C5H4OSiEt3)(C5Me5)TiCl2, the hydroxytitanocene dichloride (C5H4OH)(C5Me5)TiCl2 in a yield of 21%. The half-sandwich complex C5H4((OSiMe2Bu)-Bu-t)TiCl3 was formed with C5H4((OSiMe2Bu)-Bu-t)(SiMe3) and TiCl4. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science S.A.
