The acid-catalyzed transfer of a Me group from N,N-dimethylaniline (6) to viiamin-B-12-derived Co-1 complexes 2a,b was realized (Scheme 3). Hexane-1-thiol (8) was methylated by the methylcobalt complexes 4a,b in the presence of pyridine. Conditions for the complete cycle, i.e., Me transfer from 6 to 8 with Co-1 complexes acting as a nucleophile and a nucleofuge have been established. The importance of Zn2+ as activating agent and of the basicity of tertiary amines for the Me transfer has been investigated.
2-Pivalamido-3 H -pyrimidin-4-one derivatives: convenient pivalamide hydrolysis using Fe(NO 3 ) 3 in MeOH

A simple methodology for pivalamide (trimethylacetamide, pivaloylamino) hydrolysis has been discovered using Fe(NO3)(3) in MeOH at room temperature. The pivalamido group of 2-pivilamido-3H-pyrimidin-4-ones or fused 2-pivalamido-3H-pyrimidin-4-ones such as 2-pivilamido-3H-quinazolin-4-ones and 2-pivalamido-3H-pteridines have been hydrolysed under these conditions to afford the corresponding amine.
