    A water base erasable ink composition which comprises: (a) water as a solvent in amounts of 50-97.9 % by weight; (b) a coloring agent dispersed or dissolved in water in amounts of 1-20 % by weight; (c) an aqueous emulsion of at least one nonvolatile or only slightly volatile compound which is liquid at room temperatures and is selected from the group consisting of aliphatic carboxylic acid esters, higher hydrocarbons and higher alcohols in dry amounts of 1-15 % by weight; and (d) a water soluble resin or a water-solubilized resin which is film forming at room temperatures in amounts of 0.1-15 % by weight. The water soluble resin or water-solubilized resin may be displaced by an aqueous emulsion or a hydrosol of water insoluble resins.

    The present invention relates to a method comprising an aqueous dispersion of polymer particles having a backbone comprising structural units of an acrylate monomer and a carboxylic acid monomer, wherein a portion of the structural units of the carboxylic acid monomer are functionalized with glycidyl methacrylate, wherein the glycidyl methacrylate functionalized polymer particles have a number average molecular weight in the range of 5,000 to 50,000 Daltons. The composition of the present invention provides a UV curable coating that achieves an excellent balance of hardness and flexibility, with less reliance on the use of multifunctional acrylates.

    The present invention relates to a method comprising the steps of: a) contacting an acrylate monomer, a carboxylic acid monomer, and a chain transfer agent under free radical polymerization conditions to form a solution of a polymer having an Mn in the range of from 5,000 to 50,000 Daltons; b) contacting the solution with a base and an ethylenically unsaturated glycidyl functionalized monomer to form a solution of an ethylenically unsaturated acrylate polymer; c) contacting the solution of the ethylenically unsaturated functionalized acrylate polymer with water to form an aqueous dispersion of ethylenically unsaturated functionalized acrylate polymers; and d) removing the organic solvent. The method of the present invention provides a composition suitable for use as a UV curable coating that achieves an excellent balance of hardness, flexibility, and warmth with less reliance on costly MFAs.
