  Herbicidal diphenyl ether compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is an alkyl group optionally substituted by halogen or phenyl; R.sup.2 is hydrogen, halogen or nitro; R.sup.3 is hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, trifluoromethyl or cyano; R.sup.4 is hydrogen, halogen, or trifluoromethyl; R.sup.5 is halogen or trifluoromethyl; and R.sup.6 is hydrogen, or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl.
