Synthesis, X-ray crystal structures, physicochemical and magnetic studies on copper(II) N-(2-carboxyphenyl) iminodiacetate polymers
摘要:
Two polymeric Cu(II) complexes with N-(2-carboxyphenyl)iminodiaceticacid (H(3)cpida) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, conductance, spectral, thermogravimetric, magnetic measurements and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Green crystals of {[Cu(H(3)cpida)] . H2O}(n) (1) are obtained by digesting Cu(OH)(2) with hot aqueous solution of H(3)cpida in 1:1 molar proportion. Blue crystals of {[Cu(Hcpida)(H2O)] . H2O}(n) (2) are obtained by slow cooling of hot aqueous solution of 1. Coordination environment of Cu(II) ion in the green compound 1 (lambda(max) 749, 365 nm) is five-coordinated distorted square pyramidal, which on hydration, is transformed to six-coordinated distorted octahedral blue compound 2 (lambda(max) 768, 315 nm). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction experiments indicate that the structures of both I and 2, are made up of ID polymeric Cu(II) units linked by carboxylato bridges in syn-anti bonding mode, stabilized via inter-chain hydrogen bonds and pi-pi stacking interactions of the phenyl rings. Crystal lattice of 2 contains channels that host the lattice water molecules. Variable temperature (2-300 K) magnetic measurements indicate that the Cu(II) ions in both I and 2 exist as magnetically quasi-isolated spin doublets (g > 2) involving weak ferromagnetic coupling among the Cu(II) ions through the carboxylato bridges resulting in J values of 3.60 cm(-1) for I and 5.69 cm(-1) for 2.
