Synthesis and structures of 2-[Me2NCH2CH2N(Me)CH2]C6H4 substituted tin compounds

ArNNSnPh3 and (Ar-NN)(2)SnMe2 were prepared by reaction of LiArNN (Ar-NN = 2-[Me2NCN2CH2N(Me)CH2]C6H4) with stoichiometric amounts of the corresponding organotin chlorides. A mixture of ArNNSn(Cl)Me-2 and (Ar-NN)(2)SnMe2 was obtained when Me2SnCl2 was reacted with only one equivalent of LiArNN. The X-ray structure analysis and spectroscopic data of ArNNSnPh3 show that only the inner nitrogen atom of the Ar-NN ligand weakly interacts with the tin atom. The compound [Me-2(Cl)SnC6H4CH2N(Me)CH2CH2NHMe2]Cl was obtained by slow hydrolysis of ArNNSn(Cl)Me-2. It has a trigonal-bipyramidal structure by intramolecular coordination of the inner nitrogen atom, and a dangling CH2CH2NHMe2+ group. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
