  A novel 2-D complex [Cu(nbdc)(phen)(H2O)] (nbdc = 2-nitro-1,4-benzenedicarboxylate dianion and phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) has been synthesized and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray analysis. It exhibits nice fluorescent property. The modifying group plays a key role in the assembly of the framework.
