Novel compounds and their preparation are disclosed comprising:
(A) reacting a chlorophthalic anhydride of the formula
wherein n is 1 or 2, with potassium fluoride or cesium fluoride to form a fluorophthalamic anhydride of the formula
(8) reacting the fluorophthalic anhydride of (A) with ammonia to form a novel ammonium fiuorophthalamate;
(C) acidifying the ammonium fluorophthalamate of (B) to form a novel fluorophthalamic acid;
(D) dehydrating the fluorophthalamic acid of (C) to form a novel fluorophthalimide; and
(E) reacting the fluorophthalimide of (D) with an alkali metal salt to form a novel alkali metal fluorophthalamide.
