where n is 1 or 2 is prepared by reacting an ammonium fluorophthalamate or a fluorophthalamic acid of the formula
with an alkali or alkaline earth metal hypochlorite, and can be decarboxylated by reaction with a mineral acid to form the corresponding fluoroaniline of the formula
The fluoroanthranilic acids and fluoroanilines are useful as intermediates in the preparation of dyestuffs, pesticides and pharmaceuticals.

Novel compounds and their preparation are disclosed comprising:
(A) reacting a chlorophthalic anhydride of the formula
wherein n is 1 or 2, with potassium fluoride or cesium fluoride to form a fluorophthalamic anhydride of the formula
(8) reacting the fluorophthalic anhydride of (A) with ammonia to form a novel ammonium fiuorophthalamate;
(C) acidifying the ammonium fluorophthalamate of (B) to form a novel fluorophthalamic acid;
(D) dehydrating the fluorophthalamic acid of (C) to form a novel fluorophthalimide; and
(E) reacting the fluorophthalimide of (D) with an alkali metal salt to form a novel alkali metal fluorophthalamide.
