Synthesis, crystal structure and photoluminescent properties of two lanthanide coordination polymers with the rigid ligand of 5′-carboxyl-[1,1′:3′,1″-terphenyl]-4,4″-dicarboxylic acid

Two novel coordination polymers formulated as [Ln(L)(DMF)](n) [Ln=Tb (1), Dy (2): DMF=N, N-dimethylformamide, H3L=5'-carboxyl-[1,1':3',1"-terphenyl]-4,4"-dicarboxylic acid] have been synthesized under solvothermal conditions. Structural analyses reveal that the two compounds are isostructur.al, and each forms a three-dimensional (3D) structure possessing one-dimensional (1D) channels filled with coordinated DMF molecules. 1D infinitely inorganic lanthanide chains are linked in parallel to each other by L3- ligands in [1, - 1,2] and [5, 7, 3] directions, leading to 3D frameworks. Moreover, the photoluminescence properties of 1 and 2 have been investigated. The resulting materials show strong solid-state emissions in the visible region at room temperature.
