  Polymerizable tolanes of formula I wherein P, Sp, X, n, A1, A2, Z1, Z2, m1, m2, L1, L2, r and R have the meanings defined herein, polymerizable liquid crystal compositions comprising at least one compound of formula I, linear or crosslinked liquid crystal polymers obtainable from these compounds and compositions, are suitable for use in optical elements such as polarizers, retardation and compensation films, alignment layers, color filters or holographic elements.
