epsilon -Trimethylsilyloxy-alpha -diazo-beta -ketophosphonates were prepared in two steps from gamma -lactones. After exposure to catalytic rhodium(II) in refluxing toluene and further aqueous treatment, they gave rise to alpha -phosphono-delta -lactones in moderate to good yields.
