  In the method of temporarily coloring and later decoloring hair a hair colorant is applied and allowed to remain on the hair for an exposure time of 10 to 45 minutes at 20 to 50° C. and then rinsed out. Then at a later time, as desired, the hair is decolorized. The aqueous hair colorant contains 0.01 to 5 percent by weight of at least one dye compound of formula (IV), or a physiologically tolerated salt thereof; wherein n=0, 1 or 2 and R1 represents a C1- to C4-alkyl group, a hydroxyethyl group, a dihydroxypropyl group, a methoxyethyl group, a carboxyethyl group, a C1- to C4-sulfoalkyl group, an unsubstituted or substituted phenyl radical with halogen, sulfonic or carboxylic acid substituents; R2 represents a hydrogen, a methyl group, a carboxylic acid group, a carboxylic acid group esterified with a C1- to C4-alcohol or a carboxamido group; and Y represents an aromatic five-membered heterocyclic ring, which may or may not be benzoanellated.
