  π-Extended azuleno[2,1,8-ija]azulene derivatives and their 4,5-dihydro analogues have been prepared in four synthetic steps or less from commercially available compounds. These molecules exhibit high molar absorption coefficients in the visible region and good charge transport properties in field-effect transistors.
