  Light and heat induced reactions of iodobenzene dichloride with 3β-substituted cholest-5-enes has been studied. The ratio of the isomeric 5,6-dichlorides formed was found to be nearly independent of the 3β-substituent. Radical mechanisms are proposed for these reactions. Chlorination of 3-iodocholest-5-enes may be complicated by side reactions in which iodine is liberated.
