This invention discloses a functional monomer, its use in a polymer, a rubbery composition, a tire, and a process to make such a rubbery composition. The functional monomer has a structural formula selected from the group consisting of:
wherein the R1 groups can be the same or different and represent hydrogen atoms or alkyl groups containing from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, wherein R2 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group containing from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, wherein R3 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group containing from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, wherein R4 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group containing from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, with the proviso that if R3 represents an alkyl group then R4 represents a hydrogen atom, and with the proviso that R4 represents an alkyl group then R3 represents a hydrogen atom, and wherein the R5 groups can be the same or different and represent alkyl groups containing from 1 to 8 carbon atoms.

Low or no chlorine content poly(aryloxyphosphazene) copolymers useful for fireproof foams are surprisingly produced in a one step process without use of excess phenoxide reactant over a shorter than conventional time period by (a) adding linear (NPCl2)n to a mixture of phenoxides comprising alkali or alkaline earth metal phenoxide, alkylphenoxide and allylphenoxide in quantities such that the total of the phenoxides is the equivalent of the total chlorine atoms in the (NPCl2)n and allylphenoxide is present in an amount equivalent to from about 2% to about 10% of the chlorine atoms in the (NPCl2)n; and (b) reacting the admixture formed in step (a) at a temperature ranging from about 280°F. to about 320°F. for a time period ranging from about 7 hours to about 10 hours.

PIPA polyols are made by reacting a low equivalent weight polyol with a polyisocyanate in the presence of a stabilizer. Low amounts, if any, of water are present. Useful stabilizers include functionalized linear or branched polyethers having at least one polyether segment having a molecular weight of 200 to 8000, wherein the functionalized polyether is terminated at one end with one or more isocyanate groups or with one or more isocyanate-reactive groups linked to the polyether through one or more urea and/or urethane groups, and further wherein all or a portion of such functionalized polyether contains one or more biuret, isocyanurate, urea or allophonate groups.
