Synthesis of functionalized furo[3,2-c]coumarins via a one-pot oxidative pseudo three-component reaction in poly(ethylene glycol)
An efficient and straightforward synthesis of functionalized furo[3,2-c]coumarins via a one-pot oxidative pseudo three-component condensation of aldehydes and 4-hydroxycoumarin (2 equiv) in poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) as solvent is described. A mixture of I-2 and K2S2O8 in the presence of Na2CO3 was used as an oxidative reagent. The structure of the furo[3,2-c]coumarins was established by X-ray single crystal structure analysis.
