Gold(I) Complexes Derived from C6Me3(C⋮CH)3-1,3,5, C6Me4(C⋮CH)2-1,4, and MeC6H4C⋮CH-4

C6Me3(C CH)(3)-1,3,5 (Ar(C CH)(3)) reacts with [AuCl(SMe2)] and NEt3 (1:3:3) to give [Au-3{mu-(C=C)(3)Ar}](n) (1). Complexes of the general formula [{AuL}(3){mu-(C C)(3)Ar}] can be obtained from 1 and excess isocyanide (L = (BuNC)-Bu-t (2), XyNC (3)), by treating 2 with an excess of NHEt2 (L = C((NHBu)-Bu-t)NEt2 (4)), or by reacting [Ar(C CH)(3)] with [Au(acac)PPh3] (1:3, L = PPh3 (5)) or with PPN[AuCl2] (1:3, PPN = Ph3P=N=PPh3) and an excess of NHEt2 (L = NHEt2 (6)). The reaction of C6Me4(C CH)(2)-1,4 (Ar'(C CH)(2)) with PPN[AuCl2] (1:2) and an excess of NHEt2 gives [{AuNHEt2}(2){mu-(C C)(2)Ar'}] (7), which reacts with 1,6-bis(diphenylphosphino)hexane (dpph) to give [Au-2{mu-(C C)(2)Ar'}(mu-dpph)](n) (8). The reactions of the alkynes [Ar(C CH)(3)], [Ar'(C CH)(2)], and ToC CH (To = 4-MeC6H4) with the appropriate amounts of PPN[Au(acaC)(2)] (acac = acetylacetonato) allow the syntheses of the anionic complexes PPN[Au{C CAr(C CH)(2)}2] (9), PPN[Au{C CAr'C=CH}(2)] (10), PPN[Au{C CTo}(2)] (11), (PPN)(3n)[Au{C CAr(C C)2J2AU21, (12), and (PPN),[Aufu-(C=C)2Ar'J1, (13). The X-ray crystal structures of 5, 9, and 11 have been determined.
