Synthesis and X-ray characterization of phthalocyaninato(2-)antimony(III) triiodide

The crystals of SbPcI3 (Pc = C32H15N82-) have been obtained directly in the reaction of antimony oxide with 1,2-dicyanobenzene under iodine vapour. The crystals of SbPcI3 are built up from [SbPc](+) cations and I-3(-) anions. The SbPc moiety is nonplanar. The deviation of the Sb atom from the plane defined by the four N-isoindole atoms is 0.966(2) Angstrom. The crystal packing of SbPcI3 molecules is stabilized by a combination of ionic and donor-acceptor interactions. The iodine atoms form a linear non-symmetric I-3(-) anions, detected also by Raman spectroscopy. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
