The preparation and physical properties of a series of dioxapropylphenylethynylene oligomers is described. Restricting the interannular rotation narrows the lowest energy absorption and increases its extinction coefficient in the UV/VIS spectrum, The fluoresence spectrum of oligomers 2 and 3 are consistent with molecules possessing restricted degrees of rotation.
